  2. My current research involves sequencing the DNA found in freshwater systems (both natural and man-made) to work out what animals and bacteria are there so I can in turn figure out if the system is healthy or not. I am looking at rivers. drinking water systems, biofilms (green slime on rocks and inside pipes) and lakes and streams. There are a number of different questions I am answering based on this method of DNA sequencing.

  3. I don’t have a current research project as I am a science communicator. I teach people about research that other scientists are doing. In the past I have used computers to predict where certain insect species will be able to survive in Australia. This is important for controlling invasive insect pests like the European wasp. I’ve also worked on plants that are able to clean up contaminated soil.
