Question: What's the worst aquatic environment you've ever visited? And what's the most healthy environment you've been in?

  1. The worst aqautic environment I have seen was over in Borneo. I went snorkeling in a marine conservation park and the whole coral reef was distroyed by years of cynide bombing. They had stopped bombing the reef a few years ago, but the whole reef was dead and there was only algae growing. The edges of the reef has started to grow back a little. Also there was high fishing in the area, so we didn’t see any fish larger then a gold fish, no sharks, no sting rays, no crabs or lobsters. Anything that was big enough to eat by man was not there. Very Interesting to see, and also brings up the question of how do you feed a large population but protect the marine environment as well???

The best environment I have seen would have to be an artifical reef growing on a sunken boat. This was really interesting to see how quickly marine animals turn a sunken boat into an amassing coral community, and it was really full of life, sharks, crabs, fish and octopus. Obviously, diving on parts of the great barrier reef are really healthy. I’m not sure if a truly health environment can be found anymore, Man has really made a mark on the entire globe.
