Question: How does travelling change your perspective on the emerging technologies and why are they of interest to you?

  1. Hi mikeymc1212,

My perspective on emerging technologies has come from many, many hours of research and discussions with people, so I would say that talking with people on my travels has made me consider my own opinions. I suppose travelling around Australia itself has allowed me to see all the different environments of this country – places where there are droughts, floods or extreme bushfires. These events affect the opinions of the people that live in these regions and this has been eye-opening. For example, people who live in flood prone areas seem to wonder why we are developing technologies to deal with water-shortages.

Emerging technologies interest me because we live in a fast-paced world that is hard for many people to keep up with. I like having the job of helping people keep up with the information. There are lots of ethical questions that we need to think about as a society when using new technology (think about the internet and privacy problems), so I like to help people decide how they want to use and interact with these technologies. I believe it’s important 🙂

  3. We live in a technologically advance country. Many simple needs are not best met with advanced technology. Travelling reminds you how privileged we are and that many people live without things we regard as “rights”.
