Water gets darker and loses certain colours first as it gets deeper. If you take a gues at the seabed type you can calculate the way that light would reduce with depth. if you get a good sloution, you probably have a good estimate of depth. If not, try a different seabed type. Repeat until solved or no solution, repeat for all the pixels in the image. (not by hand!)
