I think looking for life anywhere else in our universe is worth doing. I don’t think any bad will come of it, if that’s what you mean by it being a ‘good idea’.
I think scientists are pretty sure that there is no life on our moon, but they think that it could exist on other moons. Generally scientists will look for evidence of water on other planets or moons first, because they believe water is essential to life (the kind of life like us that is!). So far, we are the only life that we know of, but who knows what we could find in the future!
