Oh dear, this is a good question. I could never remember the Periodic Table past oxygen :)… but when I was at high school some of my friends would sing the Element Song. Only problem is this songs doesn’t sing the elements in order, they are all mixed up! I think Sheldon sings this song in one of the Big Bang Theory shows.
My memory is terrible! so when I was learning chemistry I bought a massive periodic table poster online and stuck it on my bedroom wall where I could see it as I was lying in bed. I must have looked at it so much over the course of a year that I can shut my eyes and still picture it. Its funny how your subconscious lets you remember things without you even trying. I can’t remember every single element on there, but I could remember quite a few.
I agree that songs are always a good way of remembering things. I can still remember the lyrics of songs from 10 years ago even though I haven’t heard the song since then! In saying this, I can only remember the first 10 elements of the periodic table from a song I learnt… but the good thing is that I can always consult a chemistry book! You have to ask yourself why you need to remember certain things sometimes.
There is no easy way, but look for commonalities associated with specific configurations and arrangements then nail that group. Then you have that zone of the table in your head and you can move on. Remember why you are learning it, not because you have to, but because it helps you to understand.
