For munching and crushing. Their jaws are really powerful, so they can just dive out of the water and grab their prey and crush it. Just like that. They don’t move fast on land so they have to catch their dinner in one go, and very strong jaws are handy for that.

They don’t have much energy because they are big reptiles so cant really chase their prey. They only get one shot at bringing down their prey when they attack so they need those big jaws to increase their chances of being successful.
